A strong carnivorous plant, the sundew grows mostly in the southeastern United States. They not only trap pesky insects but digest them as well. They are more passive than a flytrap, but they are fascinating to watch once they catch their prey. Caring for these plants is simple but there are certain conditions they require and must live in before they can thrive. Sundews have the same requirements as most plants: sun, water and nitrogen for growth. However, certain precautions should be taken to ensure its health. In humid parts of the country, it can be kept in its pot outside of its cage. In drier areas, they can be taken out of their cage temporarily to feed or display but they must be spray misted with distilled water to stay moist. Ordinary rainwater is also acceptable. Sundews should be watered 1 to 2 times per week. Check the leaves frequently to make sure they do not dry out.
