What Does Rupee Means?
Rupee is the name of the common currency that is used all over India, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Pakistan. The rupee is also used in Mauritius and the Seychelles. In Indonesia the unit of their currency is known as rupiah. In the Maldives it is known as the rufiyah. The rupee of India and Pakistan are sub divided in to one hundred paise. The word rupee originated from the Sanskrit word ‘rup’ or ‘rupa’, this word in many Indo Aryan languages means silver. The word rupyakam in Sanskrit means coins of silver. Earlier the rupee was divided in to 16 annas, 64 paise or the 192 pies. After the occurrence of decimalization which occurred in India in the year 1957. After that the Indian rupee has been divided into 100 paise.
