Does Venus have any rock types?
Yes – basalt. A rock is a mixture of mineral crystals. Minerals have an ordered molecular structure, not atomic structure.. There are probably areas where the rocks are carbonatites, igneous carbonate rocks, which are not common on the surface of the Earth, and rocks with sulfate and sulfide compounds. Until a satellite equipped to take images in the thermal infrared and the entire infrared range of electromagnetic radiation is sent to Venus, we will not be able to map Venus geologically. If Magellan has the capability to do this, well, I’ll have to check on that. Clementine has mapped the moon geologically because its cameras had filters that recorded infrared and visible wavelengths of light.
