How Do You Redo Oak Plank Floors?
Oak floors, when properly finished, will enhance the grain and color of as well as protect the wood. Redoing your oak plank floors not only gives you a sense of accomplishment, but it will also add beauty to your room. When you redo plank oak floors, you need to check the entire floor for problem areas. Plank oak floors are a part of history, and they are in many of our oldest homes. In early times, when people cut down a tree, they would cut the trunk into plank lengths. Each plank cut was a different width. Sweep the floor, clearing away the dust, dirt and other debris from the floor. Look for protruding nails and countersink them back into the wood. Sand the floor with #36-grit sandpaper on your drum sander. You can rent one at most home improvement centers. Always sand with the wood’s grain, never against.
