How Do You Remove A Crank Pulley?
The crank pulley on your vehicle drives the serpentine belt; or, in vehicles with a separate accessory belt, it drives the accessories. It’s also used as a harmonic balancer for some engines. A harmonic balancer absorbs energy and vibration from the crankshaft. This prevents the crankshaft from failing due to excessive vibration and resonance caused by the engine cylinders firing under normal operation. If you ever need to change your timing belt, or remove or replace any of the accessories on your vehicle, you may have to remove the crank pulley. Step 1 Place the end of the tire wrench over the lug nuts on the driver’s side of your vehicle. Turn the wrench about 1/8 to 1/4 degrees. You just want to break the nuts loose, not remove them. Step 2 Engage your vehicle’s emergency brake. Step 3 Place the floor jack under your vehicle and jack up on the vehicle’s front jack point. This will be an extension of your vehicle’s frame, or the frame itself, located behind the radiator. Step 4 Cont
