How Do You Prepare Balut?
Balut is a delicacy throughout much of Asia, most often available from any local street vendor. Although they might first appear to be mere hard-boiled eggs, they are in fact much more than that: These eggs have been boiled with a nearly-born duck still inside. Its popularity in the Philippines is equivalent to the hot dog in America, and it is often considered an aphrodisiac. Step 1 Obtain desired servings of freshly-laid duck eggs. Step 2 Wait approximately 17 to 21 days, at which point the duck embryos are almost fully grown. Step 3 Boil the eggs. This will both kill the embryos, and make even the bones soft and delectable. Step 4 Crack open the roundest end of the egg, so as to drink the broth within. Step 5 Remove the rest of the egg shell. Add seasonings, and consume.
