To be on the safe side you should call her nurse or doctor. If she is bleeding, she could have been injured during the insertion, especially if the nurse was too rough with her. Her ureter/urethra was already tender from wearing a catheter and the drainage hole in the catheter may have sliced her. I believe it would be wise to get her on some antibiotics to prevent her from getting a bladder infection.

Generally insertion of a catheter should not cause any bleeding. If she has a long term indwelling catheter then her urethra could have some irritation. I would check with her health care provider but it is probably nothing to worry about.

Yes, it is very possible. I would contact to your mom’s doctor to let them know she is having some bleeding. It should clear up within the next day or two.
