Whether you want to capture the great curvature of a classic Mustang or the massive tires of a monster truck, drawing cars and car parts is enjoyable and relatively easy. Some people are intimidated about capturing all the details, but if you approach drawing cars and parts step-by-step, the process is one of logical progression. What can be more challenging, but also interesting, is recreating the textured paint on a vintage model or the dents and scratches that appear over time. Work from life if possible. Study a car and its parts. Walk around the vehicle, noting how it appears from various angles. Analyze the overall shapes that make up the car or the car part, such as the half-circle of the top of a Volkswagon Bug or the rectangles of the doors. For car parts, the same rule applies. Do not get bogged down in the nuts and bolts yet, but look for major shapes such as gears. It is important to examine how the larger shapes connect with one another, particularly in terms of size.
