Can gained time be used to cover?
Schools are encouraged to allow teachers to make use of ‘gained time’ to carry out professional activities such as developing schemes of work and resources or assisting with whole-school responsibilities, such as transfer and transition. However, in some cases it may be necessary to this time to be used, in part, to provide cover for absent staff. ALL cover carried out during this period must be counted towards the 38-hour contractual limit on cover by teachers.
