Making a wood cornice is a very easy craft project perfect for beginners. Cornice boards add elegance and style to any room’s décor. You can make many different styles of wood cornice boards to dress your windows depending on the finish you choose and the wood designs you create. You can also make a simple cornice with straight wood boards that completes the window and accents the height of your room. Step 1 Measure the width from one outer edge of your window casing (the wood trim that surrounds the window) to the outer edge of the casing on the opposite side. Add 1 inch to the width to get the length of your cornice board. Step 2 Cut a length of wood board to fit the measurement for the front of the cornice.
