How does open systems facilitate technology refresh?
In the past, where technology refresh was concerned, the effects of a single technology insertion could cause a significant technical and cost ripple throughout a system. This was because changes were not isolated through a modular design. By having open commercial interface standard profiles, the insertion of better performing components using these standard interfaces alleviates the costs associated with technology insertion “ripples.” The interface to external components has not changed and therefore should not cause a ripple throughout the rest of the system.
