There are ways to fix your Dell laptop power cord without the help of a service technician. Step 1 Insert the tip of a flat-head screwdriver in the seam in the middle of the adapter box. This is the black rectangular box located halfway between the plug and AC adapter on the power cord. Step 2 Work your way around the adapter box with the flat-head screwdriver until the two halves become loose. Twist up at each corner with the screwdriver to pop the top half away from the bottom.
