thanks to Scott of Body Dynamics for an answer: A Jack Bolt (jack Screw)(Screw jack) is positioned at all four corners of the car on top of the springs. They are used to compress and release compression on the springs to adjust and fine tune the suspension setup of the car. They are also used to position the ride heights of the car. When you remove the springs you car turn the Jack bolt back to the original position which is usually done by counting the rounds or turns of the bolt then adjust from there. Also they are a quick alternative to replaces springs quickly.(10-31-2002) • Beam Fined: NASCAR officials announced today that Mike Beam, crew chief of the #32 Ford in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series, has been fined $500 for a rule violation last weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
