Why fly Southwest?
Reason number 1: Cost When work isn’t paying, price matters. We were first drawn to Southwest a few years ago for just that reason. They really can save you quite a bit of money. For instance, as of today (12/21/2006), lets say we wanted to take a quick weekend getaway to sunny Florida (Orlando) from chilly Virginia (Dulles) in January. We want to leave on a Friday afternoon, and return on Sunday evening. On Travelocity, the rates for two round trip tickets range from $400-$1600 for two adults, with various stops and layovers along the way. On Southwest, the rates are $236-$400, round trip for two, with nonstop flights. The price difference on the other airlines reflects a number of scenarios from stops, to departure times, to seating classes, and maybe aircraft type. The price difference on Southwest reflects whether you want a refundable ticket or not.
