Almost all top loading technical packs for JanSport have a lid that can extend upward so you can overload the pack. The Bivy Extension is an extra 6 or more inches of a lightweight fabric that allows you to over stuff the pack at the top. Commonly there is both a drawstring at the normal full level where the primary fabric stops, and a second drawstring at the top of the lightweight ‘bivy extension’.
