Does eating more salt really stop cramp?
You only need extra salt if you have sweated a lot and replaced only the fluids thus changing the electrolyte balance in your blood. You could try drinking rehydration salts instead of salt – these are balanced and include other salts than sodium chloride. It could be that your muscles are protesting about the stretch required to go en pointe. You should talk to your ballet teacher about exercises you can do at home to work on your ankle and foot movement and stability. Make sure there is enough calcium in your diet and that you go out into the fresh air to get vitamin D as low calcium can also cause muscle problems as well as osteoporosis. This is really important if you are controlling your weight because of your ballet.
