Does Avia II work on 1080i/720p?
Avia II’s test material is in widscreen, anamorphic standard-DVD format. In order to use the tests at 1080i/p or any other HD format, it would needs to be passed through an upconverter that can either be freestanding or incorporated into the screen or player. But signal accuracy cannot be guaranteed through such a conversion. On the other hand, any innacuracies introduced would equally be applied to any movies or other program material similarly upconverted, so all of the basic test signals and most of the advanced test patterns should remain usable and may provide useful tests of HD-screen and upconverting-player performance as intended. An HD version of Avia II, optimized for Blu-ray or HD-DVD playback into digital displays, is under development.
