What is a “Traditional” Pocket?
A. Traditional pockets are strung using (for field players) 4 vertical leather thongs, with a synthetic netting woven between them to form a pocket for the ball to sit in. Variations on the traditional style are 6, 8, and 10 diamond stringing, which is a count of the “diamond” shapes the stringing style uses. More of them makes a stiffer pocket that doesn’t cradle as well, but releases the ball faster.
