How are the assessment funds used?
Patient claims data will be sent from payers and health plans to a non-profit collaborative of health care and insurance firms in Wisconsin called the Wisconsin Health Information Organization (WHIO). This organization will create a statewide data repository of health care information for use by providers and purchasers to improve health care in the state. The physician assessment fees will help support the costs of creating and maintaining this data repository, using the information collected to improve health care quality and safety, and developing public reports based on this information.
