What plants grow well in shade?
Hostas are fabulous, likewise ferns. There are both evergreen and deciduous varieties of ferns (just be careful when raking leaves, not to damage the evergreen ones). A big, sturdy blue-leaved hosta contrasted with a dainty fern is a wonderful combo. Astilbe, Jacob’s Ladder, and Arum are also good. There are more options if the shade is cast by deciduous trees than if it’s year-round like a building.
