dave grohl was the drummer of nirvana, and after it ended he didn’t know what to do as a musician. He approached ex-nirvana members to be part of a new band, but they thought it would be a re-incarnation of nirvana. So he grabbed nate mendel, a bass player, and together they formed the foo fighters in 1995 and got willaim goldsmith as drummer, and pat smear as guitarist.
