Is yaz an effective morning after pill?

NO! There is not enough hormones in this low-dose birth control pill to prevent a fertilized ovum from implanting in your endometrium. The morning after pill, like Plan B, is a high dose of progestin that causes your endometrial lining (the stuff you shed out every month as your period) to break down (you will cramp and bleed, at least as bad as your normal period) and prevent implantation. Yaz can’t do this. If you think you might have had unprotected sex, it’s super important to go to your pharmacy within 72 hrs. of the unprotected sex to prevent yourself from an unplanned pregnancy. The effectiveness of Plan B drops off significantly after 72 hrs. because the ovum has probably already implanted. You can get Plan B for around $40 at your pharmacy without a prescription as long as your are at least 17. If you get turned down by some religious pharmacist, don’t be scared away and go to another pharmacy as soon as possible!
