What is music censorship?
Music censorship is the process of banning music. This can be done because of content, such as the Doors single in 1968 “Unknown Soldier” was banned due to it’s anti war sentiment. It is a practice discouraged by the ACLU who believes that every American has the right to listen to whatever they wish. There is a long history of situations where their advice has not been followed. In 2003 many country stations banned music from the Dixie Chicks, this highly controversial situation caused many Americans to rethink their Freedom of Speech rights and responsibilities.
