Is the GMC solely a Western cult?
The Jewish/Christian/Wiccan(Neopagan)/Satanist line of strict heresy in the face of oppressive establishments is fairly isolated as far as I can see. Hinduism and Buddhism, for example, with which I’m familiar, are the stay-at-home, chanting/starvation-types. There is no martyrdom fixation in their tradition. I doubt we’ll find anything similar with any but a few strays in Eastern cultures. It is a largely WESTERN phenomenon. Then again, I’d like to hear everything you can dig up, since I’m no historian.
