Can Endometrial Cancer Be Prevented?
In the majority of cases, endometrial cancer cannot be prevented. Even so, there are certain things a woman can do to lower her risk. The use of birth control pills has been shown to reduce a women’s risk to endometrial cancer. Taking the pill must be evaluated with ones doctors to discuss other possible pros and cons. Staying healthy, managing one’s diabetes, eating well and watching one’s weight may help reduce the risk of this cancer. Supervision by a health care provider to assess the risk of endometrial cancer when taking specific menopausal therapy is warranted. Many of the endometrial cancers develop over a period of several years, so early detection and evaluation of any abnormal postmenopausal bleeding may lead to an earlier diagnosis.
