Is financial aid available for part-time students?

Yes. Although some types of financial aid are only for full-time students, a minimum of six (6) credit hours is required to qualify for Federal Student Loans. In addition, if you qualify for a Federal Pell Grant, you may take as few as three (3) credit hours and still qualify for assistance.

If you are a half time student (which is determined by your school… usually 6 credits) you can apply for FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). Depending on your age and other factors, your financial aid will probably still go off your parents income. You are considered a dependent student by FAFSA if you are under 24, have no children or are not married. Your results will be based off your parents income if you are not in one of those situations, even if you do not live with them and even if they don’t claim you on your taxes. It sucks. I know.
