When will Puerto Rico nab Snell?
Posted February 19, 2009 3 :49 PM Q: When will Ian Snell be leaving for Puerto Rico for the World Baseball tourney? We are leaving for spring training from Pittsburgh next week and were hoping to see him at the Feb. 27 game vs. Atlanta. Holly Hancock of Butler A: Players must report to their respective WBC country team camps by March 2, which is six days after Grapefruit League games begin. When I asked manager John Russell this afternoon, he said Snell will make one outing for the Pirates before going to Puerto Rico’s team camp. However, it’s too early to say whether or not Snell will pitch Feb. 27 against the Braves. Infielder Ramon Vazquez also will play for Puerto Rico, and expects to be used as a third baseman. Puerto Rico’s first game is March 7 against Panama in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
