Why bother showing in UKC?
Many of us who show in UKC conformation do it for a variety of reasons: Training for youngsters in an environment less threatening than all-breed AKC shows and more demanding than training classes. Many UKC clubs offer at a reduced entry fee, a non-licensed (meaning not for points) class for Novice Puppies. Novice Puppies are those that are 3 months old but not yet 6 months old. This provides wonderful ring training for the very young. IN ADDITION, the Puppy class in UKC also offers points competition in conformation for 6 months to year old pups. Exhibition venues more dog friendly due to smaller entry numbers. UKC shows typically draw 500 entries or fewer. This means that the show venue is less crowded with exhibitors, dogs, crates, and paraphernalia. This results in shows that are cleaner, less crowded, and more relaxed, and pose fewer hazards, including health risks, to dogs.
