How involved was Peter Jackson?
Major: Peter is very much involved in the art department. Way back during the Heavenly Creatures time, although he was keen to know what was going on, he wasn’t as proactive as far as getting into the nitty gritty of what the design was back then. Certainly in the making of this trilogy, he was there every step of the way. In a manner of speaking he would sign off on all the designs we’d done. He also has a lot of responsibility for it. It’s an organic thing. Many many people contributed details to achieve the overall look. However, from a business point of view, ultimately my name gets singled out, right or wrong, for these kind of things. IGN: What was one of the most grueling things you had to accomplish? Major: The most memorable thing about the designing and conceptualizing of these sorts of things was [that it’s] a mind game. Actually turning it into reality was this gigantic challenge. Whenever Alan, for example, drew his ideas for Helm’s Deep, he drew these tiny little figures
