Are german shepard dogs good pets?
German Shepherds aren’t used as police dogs. Only German Shepherds from european working lines make police dogs (even though some seriously behind the curve departments still use crappy American lines and German Show Lines). Everything you read about a German Shepherd’s courage, intelligence, and working ability, is talking about the German Shepherd 50-60 years ago when there were JUST the working line dogs. The German Shepherd of today is 3 distinct breeds in all honesty (much the same the American Cocker Spaniel and the English Cocker Spaniel are no longer the same dog). The American German Shepherd (of course the easiest to find in this country) barely looks like the original GSD, and doesn’t act like the original GSD at ALL…they’re usually fearful dogs and “protective” has become “fear biter”. They’re also only very rarely screened for genetic issues such as bad hips (Hip Dysplasia) and with their tradiotionally oversloped backs and overangled hindquarters are very prone to HD at
