Is 911 active the minute my WOW! Phone service is installed?
Basic 911 service is immediately available upon installation. That is, you may place 911 calls that will be routed to your local Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) immediately. E911, the customer data including your name and address, however, may not be immediately available. In accordance with industry standards, this information is updated after customer installation. This is so the shared industry database is populated with the most accurate information possible. Once WOW! sends the information to the industry database, it may take 24 to 48 hours for that database to update and get the information to the local Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP). This is the industry’s standard timeframe for updating 911 information when a customer changes phone providers. Regardless of whether you call 911 one day or one year after your installation, it is important to always identify yourself and your address to the 911 dispatcher.
