What is Umoja University?
Umoja University is a four and a half day conference for educators from schools and community organizations across the city to participate in workshops that enable them to build a positive, youth centered school culture. During morning sessions, Umoja will share our resources, curriculum, strategies and best practices with education professionals through facilitated workshops and hands-on activities on: • College and Career Exposure and Preparation • Leadership Development • Student Development/Advisory • Building a Positive Youth-centered School Culture • Social and Emotional Learning During afternoon sessions, registered school teams will have dedicated planning time to work with a skilled facilitator to design an individualized action plan for their school. All professionals need and deserve the time to reflect on their practice and to balance concrete, pragmatic school planning with a redefinition and recommitment of the underlying principles that guide that work.
