How are disputed claims handled?
If you receive a notice that your refund was intercepted for a debt owed to a state agency, county, or municipality and you have questions or disagree with the claim, please call the agency telephone number listed on the notice. If your refund was intercepted for a delinquent tax debt and you have questions or disagree with the claim, please call the Department at (608) 266-7879. If your refund was intercepted for a debt owed to the Internal Revenue Service and you have questions or disagree with the claim, please call the IRS at 1-800-829-7650.
