What is ESD and is it important?
ESD stands for (Electro-Static Discharge) and it is very important! You should take every precaution against it when upgrading your hardware or you have your hands in an open case. You can’t feel an electro-static discharge below 3,000Volts But you could damage electronic equipment with as little as 30Volts (but varies with different components) and up to a maximum of 100Volts. You could damage your equipment and not even know it. Also, it may not fail right away but you have an inherent fault just waiting to emerge and this is called (latent failure). And because the component is damaged, the life span is significantly reduced, and maybe one or two of you out there have experienced it. Items that generate high voltages are typically celotape, walking across the carpet, CRT monitors and plastic bags.
