Does FTP work with HTTP-Tunnel?
FTP does indeed work with HTTP-Tunnel’s service, but you must set your FTP client software to PASV mode and SOCKS 4/5 proxy 127.0.0.1 with port 1080. The best FTP client for doing this is FlashFXP© as it allows you to use the SOCKS proxy directly. FTP, in standard active mode actually opens a command connection only. Whenever you do a “dir” or “ls” or transfer a file, the command connection issues a statement to the FTP server to connect back to the client on a listening port. Since HTTP-Tunnel does not allow servers to run behind any firewall or proxy (security measure), one will never get FTP to work in active mode. Numerous people have tried FTP behind a firewall. It still seems that only some of them can get this working, even in passive mode. I suspect it has to do with different servers and clients implementing PASV mode differently. Currently FTP Uploading is not supported either.
