What is number porting?
Number porting, or the industry term, Local Number Portability (LNP), basically provides you with the ability to take any phone number, which is in an account with your name, and move it to any service provider. There are some limitations as it relates to porting numbers to land line phones, it must be within the physical area of the specific area code. Wireless number portability simply means keeping your phone number and choosing a new carrier to provide your service. You can carry your number from cellular to cellular or landline to cellular. • What do I need to know before I port my number? You must be the owner of the mobile number you are attempting to port. You also must be opening the new account in your name. Do not cancel your existing account with your carrier. Your existing phone will be working through the porting process until your mobile number is transferred over to the new carrier. Please note: The porting process can not be completed if you terminate your existing account. • What do I need to know about Wiredia’s porting process You will be required to fax/scan-email your current wireless bill to us. Your full name, billing address, mobile number and account number must be clearly visible. Missing information will delay the porting process. Number porting is the process of moving a telephone number from one provider to another. It is possible to fully convert to VoIP whilst retaining your current landline telephone number. What numbers we can port We can currently port most geographic numbers (ie: 01 and 02) from BT and a limited number of other VoIP providers. We cannot port numbers from NTL or Telewest at present. How to request a number port Start by contacting your current telecoms provider and advising them of what you intend to do. You must raise a support ticket on your aql account with full details of the number to be ported. We must also see a copy of the most recent bill for the number, and you must sign a porting authority form which we will provide. There is currently a £15 +VAT fee for porting a number. We reserve the right to pass on to you any other fees or costs we incur during the process. These fees are non-refundable, even if the porting process is unsuccessful.
