IBM created their first personal computers over twenty years ago, many of their competitors reversed engineer their design and created similar duplicates of their system. These clones were capable of running the same software and operated in the same manner as their IBM counterparts. This term is no longer applicable to the current market. This term has been shortened to just clone and redefined from the original implied meaning.
