What is Gardisil?
Gardisil is a vaccine that helps protect against the diseases caused by the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) types 6, 11, 16, and 18. These types of HPV can lead to cervical cancer, precancer of the vulva, vagina, or cervix, as well as genital warts. Gardisil is used to help in the prevention of these diseases and is not used to treat them. Gardisil does not protect against other diseases not caused by HPV. Gardisil is recommended for women between the ages of 9 and 26. It is best given prior to sexual contact. It is given as a three-shot series over a period of 6 months.
