What is an EGD?
A. EGD (Esophagogastroduodenoscopy) is a diagnostic test consisting of a thin, flexible tube being passed through the patients mouth into the stomach. This allows the physician to directly inspect the lining of the upper gastrointestinal tract (esophagus, stomach, and duodenum). Biopsies (small samples of tissue) may be obtained, if necessary, for further analysis to improve the diagnosis.
