What is colonization?
Top Simply put, it is the establishment of life where previously there was none. Colonization may include life establishing onto a barren surface or a particular type of organism establishing itself where that organism did not live, but other organisms may have already been established. For example on land, after a volcano eruption (or other destructive natural phenomena), plants and other life colonize the lava flows in the areas where lava flows destroyed and covered the life which existed previous to the eruption.
