Why File edges?

Your skis and board have two edges – Base edge and Side edge they are made of steel and will take most of the damage that skis and boards suffer from. They are about 2mm thick. Your base has to be flat against the snow but the base edge has to be off the snow, not that you would notice it as it is very slight, the base angle is normally set between 1 degree and 2 degree and the side bevel will be between .5 and 3 degress. If your an intermediate to expert skier you may wish to have your outside edges slightly different to the inside edges of your skis, allowing you to hold a stronger line through hard pack or ice at speed. If youre going to have this done, as it is a service I can offer, make sure you know which ski is left and which right !!. What bevel angle you will have will determine what type of skier or boarder you are. If you are a beginner your ski manufacturer will have a standard setting for your equipment or I can bevel both side and base at 89 degrees the standard setting.
