What is IBIS/ NIBIN?

0

IBIS is the Integrated Ballistics Identification System, which is our link to NIBIN, the National Integrated Ballistics Information Network. NIBIN is a big computer database that stores digital images of the microscopic marks on the surfaces of cartridge cases and bullets. IBIS is the computer that we use to take the pictures of the surfaces and send the pictures to the database. The database computer then sends us pictures that have similar individual marks like the ones on the picture we sent. We compare those pictures with our picture to see if any match.
