The SAGE engine is a new, built from scratch, 3D engine developed by Westwood Pacific, now EA Pacific, about a year and a half ago. It does use some of the rendering code and techniques from the Westwood3D engine (W3D) that is used in Renegade, Earth & Beyond Online and Pirates: Legend of Black Kat. But make no mistake, it’s a new engine.
