Is There A Grace Period For The Birthparents To Change Their Mind After They Have Signed The Adoption Paperwork?
In many states, the paperwork is considered final and irrevocable after signing the surrender paperwork in front of witnesses and a notary or a judge. In some states, (e.g. Minnesota, Tennessee, Georgia), after the initial surrender paperwork is signed, there is a period of time when the birthparents can change their mind, e.g. 10 days. The most important question is whether the birthparents have received sufficient counseling, so that, when they sign the paperwork, they feel clear that this is the decision they want to make.
