What are human-made disasters?
Emergencies rooted in political crises are increasingly common. Recent examples of human-made emergencies include Iraq , Afghanistan , Liberia and the Democratic Republic of Congo, where conflict has triggered refugee crises and the need for large-scale humanitarian aid. In Southern Africa , the drought that threatened millions of people resulted from a mix of natural and political causes – what is known as a ‘complex emergency’.
