The blue tint’ usually occurs when the piece is quite new and has been subjected to too high a heat. This is a characteristic of all stainless steel (not only Bistro). This tinge will eventually fade during use. It will in no way impair the piece nor affect the food. You may also be able to remove some of the discolouration by using a little lemon juice or a creme cleanser – it will in any case simply disappear with continued use. Although overheating causes blue tinting’ – other marks (spots) can sometimes be caused by lime salts in food. Remember to add salt to cooking after the water has reached boiling point so it will dissolve straight away. Base Peeling/Melting’ It is most unlikely that Bistro will melt’ or the base peel’ unless misuse has occurred. For the Bistro thermabase’ to actually melt – it must be subjected to extremely high heat for an unreasonable amount of time. In fact – the temperature would have to reach in excess of 600ÂșC.
