What is an Event?
An event is an occurrence, occasion, activity, or function at which merchandise is sold or traded or taxable services are provided. The event can be on one day or consecutive days. For example, when an event is held every weekend over a period of time, each weekend (consecutive days) constitutes a separate event. In addition to swap meets, flea markets, and craft fairs, the following are examples of other events: tradeshows, conventions, and consumer shows; community or association picnics, fairs, markets, or festivals; carnivals and fairs; fund-raising events; and other similar occurrences, occasions, activities, or functions.
An event is a set of outcomes, a subset of the sample space, to which a probability is assigned. Typically, any subset of the sample space is an event (i.e. all elements of the power set of the sample space are events), but when defining a probability space it is possible to exclude certain subsets of the sample space from being events. Example: If we assemble a deck of 52 playing cards and two jokers, and draw a single card from the deck, then the sample space is a 54-element set, as each individual card is a possible outcome. An event, however, is any subset of the sample space, including any single-element set (an elementary event, of which there are 54, representing the 54 possible cards drawn from the deck), the empty set (which is defined to have probability zero) and the entire set of 54 cards, the sample space itself (which is defined to have probability one). Other events are proper subsets of the sample space that contain multiple elements.
A Server Check Pro event is any situation that we test for when monitoring your site. If an event is triggered, we will send out any notifications that have been attached to that particular event. Events can be problems (such as “Server Offline”) or they can be regular situations (such as “Weekly Summary”). For more information on what events we monitor, see Section 6.
