What is demodectic mange?
Demodectic mange is a non-contagious mange, meaning that if your dog was around other dogs, they would not catch it. It also doesn’t eat away at the skin, it lays eggs in the skin. It mostly infects the puppy at a very young age, when their immune system has not developed yet, and may or may not die out by adulthood. However, it’s similar to herpes in that it is a parasite that does not leave completely, but lies dormant until the immune system weakens again. The infection of demodectic mange may point to other infections such as heart worms, etc.
