Embryos selected for cryopreservation are treated with special media containing cryoprotectants. They are then loaded into cryo-vials or straws and placed in special chambers where the temperature is reduced to -196C according to a special computerized program. Embryos are then stored in liquid nitrogen at -196C for future use.
