Treating wood wheel spokes?
It depends on how good the wood is and what your going to use as a final coating. Thinned coats of boiled linseed oil work well with oil based paints and varnishes, but not a good base coat for automotive paints. If the wheels have areas of missing finish and look very “weathered”, plus there are gaps appearing between the spokes at the hub, the wood grain has been crushed by swelling and the wood cells are damaged. linseed oil won’t do much to tighten up a badly weathered wood wheel. Those gaps will have to be filled EVENLY with hard wood shims before the wood is sealed.
